Why we built this
We watched family members spend thousands of dollars and wait months to settle estates that should have been simple.
In most U.S. states, if the estate is small enough, you can skip full probate. The shortcut is a sworn statement called a small estate affidavit. It is often one page. It often costs less than a hundred dollars to file. But most people never hear about it.
The catch is that the form, the dollar limit, and the rules change from state to state. A family in Texas is dealing with a different threshold than a family in Pennsylvania. And the county court website rarely explains the process in plain English.
We built SmallEstateBypass to close that gap. One tool. One fee. One clear answer about whether you qualify and what to file.
Our mission
Make estate settlement fast, affordable, and accessible to every American family. That includes the many estates that do not need a lawyer or a full probate court case. The system was not designed to be easy. We are trying to make the straightforward cases straightforward again.
Who built this
SmallEstateBypass was built by a former U.S. Department of Homeland Security Chief of Staff Officer. He spent years running operations inside the federal government, where accuracy, deadlines, and compliance were not optional. He brought that same standard to this tool.
Every state page cites the controlling statute, the dollar threshold, and the rules about who is allowed to file. We update those citations when state laws change.
To be clear about what we are not. This is not a DHS product. This is not a law firm. We do not claim that an attorney reviews every document we generate. The tool produces self help legal forms. If your situation is complex, we will tell you to hire a lawyer.
